Laser Detects Hidden Decay |
||
| Among the newest technologies in our office is a small laser instrument called the DIAGNODENT, which scans your teeth with laser light searching for hidden decay. X-rays and probing with an explorer are sometimes unreliable in detecting sub-surface decay, particularly when the cavity is in its early stages. This unique instrument provides instant feedback on the health of the tooth. A pen-like probe simply glides over the tooth surfaces constantly checking the health of the tooth. A number scale and an alarm signals the operator when there are signs of hidden decay. This new technology is completely safe and pain free. |

| X-Rite Shade Vision System | ||
|
The x-rite shade vision system is a computerized device which takes an image of a tooth to aid dentists and laboratory technicians in color matching. This new technology provides accurate color images of teeth versus single “shade guide” color values.
It can accurately detect subtle color variations in tooth structures which can be accurately communicated to the dental lab. The system also functions as a quality control tool for the dental lab technician by allowing them to view the restoration as it will appear in the patient’s mouth. Determining the shade of a tooth and communicating this information to the lab is one of the greater challenges of cosmetic dentistry. Since teeth are seldom one color and have many color variations within them, it is quite useful to have such a powerful tool at our disposal. It is new technology such as this that help us provide high quality dentistry to our patients. |
