H.R. Makarita DDS, MAGD, FAACD
Dr. Makarita graduated from the Medical College of Virginia School of Dentistry in 1988. Since then he has maintained a private practice in Oakton, Virginia focusing on cosmetic and reconstructive dentistry. He believes strongly in continuing education to better serve his patients and to keep up with the newest techniques and materials utilized in modern dentistry, and as a result, has been awarded Mastership status in the Academy of General Dentistry. In order to achieve this, he was required to attend over 1100 hours of continuing education in all phases of Dentistry, of which 400 of those hours involved participation courses and case presentations.

Dr. Makarita is also among an elite group of cosmetic dentists who have been accredited and attained Fellowship status by the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. To date, this prestigious professional status has been awarded to only 39 dentists worldwide. To achieve accreditation, one must complete extensive advanced education in cosmetic dentistry, and must pass a rigorous Accreditation Board Examination. Fellowship marks the highest level of clinical achievement in the AACD. Dr. Makarita reached this status through a dedication to continuing education, careful adherence to protocol, and the resolve to produce exceptional dentistry.

Currently, he is the only dentist worldwide who is both an accredited Fellow of the AACD and is also a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry. Dr. Makarita has been recognized internationally for his smile design talents by winning numerous gold awards in the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry's Smile Gallery Competitions. In addition, he was presented with the People's Choice Award during the AACD's Annual Scientific Session in May 2003.

In addition, Dr. Makarita received Mastership Status in February 2006 from the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies (LVI). Mastership is based on clinical expertise and continued learning in the realm of Aesthetic Neuromuscular Dentistry. He is one of only seven dentists worldwide to achieve this status. He also received his Fellowship in the International Academy for Dental Facial Aesthetics in 2003.

Dr. Makarita enjoys traveling, scuba diving, black and white darkroom photography, underwater photography, cycling, and riding his Harley Davidson. He and his wife, Amani, have two daughters, Hana and Dina.
